Halloween Traditions: Movie Style

Every year around this time I like to start watching my seasonal movie favorites. I love that I can recall so many good memories just by watching a movie. Now that my girls are getting older and understanding more, I'm excited to be starting our families list of "family tradition movies".  Here are the top 5 on my list of Kid Friendly's and Adult's Only. 2. The Addams Family series
As a kid, there were a few years I went as Mortica for Halloween
I must have thought she was classy lol

1. Hocus Pocus
I watch this EVERY single year... and yes
Every year I will singalong with Sarah Jessica Parker in that scene

What's Halloween without Zombies??

4. Jeepers Creepers
Okay, so I'll admit. I think this is a silly movie, but I have an obsession
with how creepy that scarecrow is when he's in the field
and now I'll be singing this song all night long...

3. Trick r Treat
This is a newer movie, a bit odd, with 4 separate stories
Matt and I have watched this every year together since it's been out

2. Halloween Series
It's a Halloween staple
It says it right there in the title

1. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
So, I have a thing for musicals, the 70's and the unusual
I watched this long before I knew exactly what the movie was about
I would literally leave this marathon on TV all day and go about my business
Just listening to it faintly in the background and singing along.
I probably know every line from this movie.
I would love to attend this in the movie theater
where they drench you with water and scream at the screen
Oh and it probably helps that Tim Curry reminds me of Freddie Mercury in this movie :)

 

BOY OH BOY

Lately I've noticed the new "let's have a boy trend". Which has made me a bit feverish. And although I feel my child barring days may be over, there's always the little hope that we might adopt a boy in the future. Having that special mother son connection is a thought that's been developing for the past few months, but until then all I can do is scour Pinterest for baby boy ideas and daydream...

Paint, Fair & Nature

This last weekend was Matt's weekend rotation at work. Which means he went in at 10am on Saturday and didn't get off until 7pm that evening. As much as I am thankful for him, his job and the fact that he provides for his family, I can't help but loath the dreadful weekend rotation. However this is our life, we must accept it and move on... "Daddy has to make money or we don't have breakfast or ballet." in the word of Malaya.

So, while we waited for him to get off work we watched a few movies, read a couple books and I found good use of the left over refrigerator box that's just sitting in the garage. I made an easel, got the paint out and the girls "went to town" making art. After Matt got home, we managed to make it to the fair long enough to ride 3 rides and be broke... no seriously, they make a killin'. To top off the weekend, Sunday the weather was just right to go out and take a Jeep ride! We ended up stomping around the banks of Arkansas, skipping rocks on the Buffalo River and playing in campfire dirt. All in all the weekend turned out great, even though some weekends "Daddy has to make money".

A Swashbuckling Good Time!

Well, Mally turned 3. Like every other year we had a big birthday party, the only difference this year is that she is more vocal about what she wants and what she doesn't want. What does she want? Well, pirates of course! This year I intended for this party to be somewhat simple, stress free and well, let's be honest... cheap. All of that went out the door at the start, after all what's a pirate party without all the necessities pirates, a ship, a plank and pirate food! It didn't end up breaking the bank, we thrifted our outfits and you'd be surprised at what you can do with some cardboard and spray paint! Although, when you're a procrastination specialist like me, you can be sure of rough seas ahead. Luckily for me I work awesome under pressure :)  Wednesday I started painting the decor and pulling together or outfits. Thursday was Malaya's actual birthday, so we focused on the girls all day. Matt was off of work and we headed out of town to get our bounce house on! We all had a blast for a couple of hours for only $5.00, can't beat that. We were able to stop by Party City and pick up party supplies. Friday we picked up a refrigerator box from our local Home Depot and got to work on our pirate ship, I also made the cakes that night. Saturday, out of some miracle we pulled everything together and had us a pirate party, even the rain couldn't stop us! In the end it was A LOT of time consuming work for a party that lasted only a couple of hours... but creating good memories for our girls lasts a lifetime and that's all that matters. ARRRR!!
